Dear Colleagues,
This month's Spotlight on Games in STEM Education showcases innovative research into the role of gaming as a powerful tool to boost engagement and learning in STEM classrooms. Two blog posts featured in the Spotlight focus on changes that AI is bringing to educational games.
CADRE hosted an online orientation for new DRK-12 awardees, introducing them to CADRE’s resources and programming and providing opportunities to network and discuss key topics such as budgeting, team management, and partnerships and collaboration.
Register now for our next CADRE Learning Series: Generative AI in STEM Teaching and Learning: Now and in the Future. The session on January 24, 2025, at 1-2:30 PM ET, will feature authors of two upcoming reports: Generative AI in STEM Teaching: Opportunities and Tradeoffs and The Potential of Using AI to Improve Student Learning in STEM: Now and in the Future. If you miss the live webinar, join the authors during their session at the 2025 AERA Annual Meeting.
We’ve sent a save the date email for the 2025 DRK-12 PI Meeting to the leads of DRK-12 projects that will be actively funded on the dates of the meeting (June 9-11). Check your inbox for the email sent on November 12 and complete our survey to share your input on the meeting design.
The CADRE Fellows program is accepting applications from early career scholars in EPSCoR jurisdictions and rural areas until November 29. Please share the application details with eligible candidates in your network.
We recently updated CADRE's Curricula & Resources for Educators collection with DRK-12 products and shared them via our STEM Smart newsletter. We've updated our Pinterest boards to include new educator resources as well. We hope you'll share these resources with your networks and send us additional DRK-12 educator resources to be included in this collection.
Former NSF leaders continue to make headlines. As the nation anticipates a new presidential administration, a task force (an initiative of the Science and Technology Action Committee)—including former NSF Director Dr. France Córdova and other STEM leaders—is shaping a vision and recommendations for Congress and the administration to advance science and technology. Additionally, Joan Ferrini-Mundy, former assistant director of NSF’s Directorate of Education and Human Resources, has been appointed to the National Science Board.
Best,
The CADRE Team

2025 CADRE Fellows Program | Reminder
As a reminder, CADRE is accepting applications for the 2025 CADRE Fellows program until November 29, 2024. The January-July program will provide professional growth opportunities for up to 10 early career professionals in the field of preK-12 STEM education.
To support NSF in its charge to expand opportunities for individuals in EPSCoR jurisdictions and rural areas, this year we’re tailoring the program to the needs and interests of these populations. We invite early career scholars from institutions in EPSCoR jurisdictions and rural areas to apply. If you are a more senior scholar and know someone who may be a good fit for the program, we encourage you to share this opportunity.
Applications are due by 5 PM ET on Friday, November 29, 2024.
