Dear Colleagues,
More than 40 DRK-12 projects presented videos in the recent STEM For All Video Showcase. It isn’t too late to view those videos to learn about current work! For those considering submitting a proposal for future work, please join NSF for a webinar on the DRK-12 program and solicitation.
Based on the results of the Spring 2022 DRK-12 portfolio survey, one in 10 of the responding active DRK-12 awards is researching and/or developing video to support STEM teaching and learning. Two thirds of these projects are leveraging video as part of their professional development or teacher education efforts. In this month’s Spotlight, we’re featuring projects that study video-based professional development and a blog on using 360 video in teacher education. We also have a recording and resources to share from the final learning series' webinar on professional development design.
The EQR Hub is offering a webinar, How to Create a High-Quality Engagement Plan to Disseminate STEM Research and Innovations, and accompanying community of practice (CoP).
In recognition of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we invite you to learn more about the project, Precipitating Change in Alaskan and Hawaiian Schools: Modeling Mitigation of Coastal Erosion.
The NSF director’s testimony before the House Appropriations Committee on May 11 provides insights into future NSF funding priorities, including supporting more research in EPSCoR states and for minority-serving institutes. NSF also submitted its equity plan to address harassment, optimize demographic data collection, create an equitable contracting environment, increase participation of Native nations and their members in NSF’s portfolio, and implement a civil rights program.
Best,
The CADRE Team

CADRE Learning Series on Professional Development for Researchers Who Don't Study PD | Recordings & Resources
If you are developing professional development components for a proposal or project, explore the resources from our recent CADRE Learning Series.
In Part 1 of the learning series, expert panelists shared important design principles for PD during a webinar.
In Part 3, panelists discussed what they learned from their design consultations (Part 2), sharing how they applied (or modified) professional development design principles to address the investigators’ needs.
Argumentation, Scientific Modeling and Pedagogical Content Knowledge | New Syntheses of DRK-12 Work
The Advancing Methods and Synthesizing Research in STEM Education project synthesized insights from 60+ DRK-12 projects. Syntheses focus on three high-priority topics in STEM education: argumentation, scientific modeling, and pedagogical knowledge content. Each synthesis describes DRK-12 projects funded between 2011- 2015, identifies cross-cutting findings, and offers suggestions for future research priorities.
