November 2022 Newsletter

Dear Colleagues,

This month’s newsletter includes a Spotlight on projects researching artificial intelligence (AI) in STEM teaching, learning, and assessment. It sheds light on directions in AI education research and approaches to using AI and machine learning to address current challenges in preK-12 STEM education.

If you missed the CADRE Learning Series on case study design, be sure to read the summary of ideas and resources. In addition, CADRE has added a Research Toolkit to our resource page. Let us know what you think and how we might improve this resource for the DRK-12 community and prospective awardees.

Looking ahead, we expect to announce the new CADRE Fellows cohort in December and start the 2023 program in January. Thank you to the many scholars who have been reviewing the applications! Also, the EQR Hub is starting a new Community of Practice focusing on integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into conceptual frameworks for research. Learn more below.

Best,
The CADRE Team

Artificial Intelligence in STEM Teaching & Learning | Spotlight

This Spotlight highlights a few of the many ways artificial intelligence can be applied to STEM classrooms and education research, from AI-based assessment to intelligent virtual companions.

In this Spotlight:

Research Toolkit | New Resource

CADRE has compiled education research tips, resources, and tools on research design, theory and frameworks, methodologies, instrumentation, human subjects, and data management.

We invite you to explore the new toolkit and send us feedback: What key resources would you include for STEM education research?

Develop a Conceptual Framework Centered on DEI | EQR Hub Community of Practice (CoP)

Evidence Quality and Reach Hub flyer for community of practiceThe Evidence Quality and Reach Hub (EQR) will offer a free, three-session CoP focused on integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into conceptual frameworks for research. As part of the CoP experience, participants will receive direct instruction and feedback from experts and develop their own conceptual framework.

The CoP sessions will be held:

  • January 25, 2023, from 3-4:30 ET
  • February 15, 2023, from 3-4:30 ET
  • March 8, 2023, from 3-4:30 ET

Participants are expected to attend all three sessions and will gain access to an interactive learning platform and resources for developing DEI-centered conceptual frameworks. Register by December 9, 2022.
