Dear Colleagues,
Here in New England, where CADRE is headquartered, spring is trying hard to break through winter’s hold. We hope that as many of you head out for spring conferences, you encounter great weather for travel and networking outdoors in between attending your colleagues’ presentations. As more of you have responded to our recent survey of DRK-12 projects, we’ve gathered additional information about upcoming DRK-12 project presentations and recent publications, products, and tools. We invite you to review the lists of presentations and publications, products, and tools as you prepare to attend conferences. We hope that you’ll connect with CADRE Fellows and DRK-12 colleagues that you see at the conferences.
This month’s Spotlight highlights research on opportunities for teachers to learn from and with each other, enabling educators to share best practices and innovate teaching strategies and enhancing individual and collective teacher effectiveness. Learn more about DRK-12 projects studying collaborative teacher learning.
PreK-12 STEM education research isn’t often recognized when STEM awards are being made. Consider making a nomination for The National Medal of Science before May 3.
Best,
The CADRE Team
Collaborative Teacher Learning | Spotlight
This month’s Spotlight highlights five projects that are investigating professional learning experiences that support collaboration among practitioners to improve knowledge and practice. Projects describe the role of collaboration in their programs; the structures, processes, and tools that support the programs; and their approach to sustainability. We also invite you to explore additional DRK-12 projects and products as well as related resources.
In this Spotlight:
- Featured Projects
- Co-learning Math Teaching Project: Collaborative Structures to Support Learning to Teach across the Professional Teaching Continuum (PI: Ruth Heaton)
- Comparing the Efficacy of Collaborative Professional Development Formats for Improving Student Outcomes of a Student-Teacher-Scientist Partnership Program (PI: Catrina Adams)
- Examining an Online, International Exchange Professional Development Program for High School Teachers (PI: Amanda Brown)
- Exploring Changes in Teachers' Engineering Design Self-Efficacy and Practice through Collaborative and Culturally Relevant Professional Development (PI: Frank Bowman)
- SPIRAL: Supporting Professional Inquiry and Re-Aligning Learning through a Structured e-Portfolio System (PI: José Felipe Martinez)
- Additional Projects
- Related Resources
DRK-12 Publications, Products, Tools, & Presentations | Resources & Events
We invite you to peruse a list of recent publications, products, and tools from DRK-12 projects to learn more about the findings and promising approaches emerging from your colleagues’ work. These resources have also been added to CADRE’s online collection of DRK-12 Research and Products and associated projects’ profile pages.
If you are attending a conference this year, view this list of recent and upcoming presentations to find opportunities to connect and learn from your DRK-12 colleagues. At least 22 projects are sharing their work at the AERA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. We hope you’ll let us know about your own plans to present!
This information is being gathered through two active surveys: the annual DRK-12 portfolio survey of currently funded projects and a dissemination survey of projects that recently wrapped up their work. Check your inboxes for a survey invitation or email cadre@edc.org if you have questions about sharing news from your project. We will continue to update the list of presentations as survey results come in and will promote presentations, publications, and products via newsletters and our website in the coming months.
PreK-12 STEM Education Innovations That Work | Program Nominations
To inform a consensus study by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), Education Development Center is compiling a compendium of successfully scaled-up preK-12 STEM education programs and initiatives, including those involving computer and data science.
Inclusion in the compendium will benefit programs by:
- Highlighting the program as a successful preK-12 STEM initiative
- Sharing information about the program with a broad audience of stakeholders
- Ensuring that the program is included in discussions regarding successful STEM innovations
View the selection criteria and learn more about how to nominate a project. The deadline for nominations is May 1, 2024.
Project Tip: Developing PartnershipsCADRE captured advice about developing and maintaining partnerships offered by DRK-12 awardees at the 2021 DRK-12 PI Meeting. Read these tips in the Guide for Developing Partnerships. Additional tips, insight, and guidance may be found in the CADRE Learning Series recordings and slides and in session slides presented at the 2023 DRK-12 PI Meeting.
