Dear Colleagues,
Happy summer, and welcome to the most recent new awardees! For those preparing to submit proposals for the next DRK-12 deadline (October 5, 2022), we invite you to listen to our recent informational webinar on the DRK-12 solicitation, in which DRK-12 Program Lead Mike Steele offers guidance on proposal writing and submission. If you’re designing your project, now is the perfect time to start planning for dissemination. You may want to join EQR Hub's community of practice on Designing a Communication and Engagement Plan. See this month’s Project Tip (below) for other dissemination ideas.
We’re hoping that the pandemic will stop upending our lives and our education systems soon. Still, we’ve learned a lot during these past years. This month our Spotlight focuses on research about teaching and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month. NSF recently piloted the collection of sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) data in the National Survey of College Graduates, long advocated by those wanting more NSF surveys to build on the SOGI data that other federal agencies collect. International Women in Engineering Day was also this month, on June 23, and we invite you to read about a DRK-12 project collaboration focused on increasing female representation in physics and engineering. These June events are opportunities to celebrate successes in making STEM education more equitable and inclusive, as well as to recognize the distances that we still need to go. Here is an overview of FY22 and 23 STEM education budget and appropriations priorities at the federal level, which continue to try to address inequities and improve opportunities for a more inclusive STEM education and workforce ecosystem.
Best,
The CADRE Team

Designing a Communication and Engagement Plan | Community of Practice Signup
The Evidence Quality and Reach Hub (EQR) will offer a free three-session community of practice (CoP) this July and August focused on designing communication and engagement plans. As part of the CoP experience, participants will receive direct instruction and feedback from knowledge-translation experts and peer-learning support to develop their own fully formed plans.
Participants are expected to attend all three sessions and will gain access to an interactive learning platform, engagement plan templates, and other resources. Learn more and register by July 11.
If you missed the June 9 webinar on creating high-quality engagement plans for sharing STEM research and innovations led by AIR's Emily Loney, the recording and slides are available.

Project Tip: Telling the Story of Your ResearchIra Flatow recently interviewed NSF Director, Sethuraman Panchanathan on Science Friday. In talking about making an impact with your research, Dr. Panchanathan said, “Sometimes things can be nailed down in numbers. Sometimes it is storytelling. Sometimes it’s anecdotes.” If you need to polish your storytelling, here are a few tips:
