May 2021 Newsletter

Dear Colleagues,

This month we’re featuring DRK-12 CAREER awardees. The next deadline for CAREER proposal submissions is July 26. We encourage you to explore resources in our NSF Proposal Toolkit if you are considering submitting this year or in the future.

The 2021 DRK-12 PI Meeting is almost here! CADRE is busily working with the planning committee and DRK-12 awardees to finalize arrangements. The agenda includes plenty of opportunities to discuss STEM education and research topics, network, and learn about DRK-12 project work, including newly awarded projects.

If you weren’t able to attend the Research.gov webinar led by NSF, we encourage you to watch the recording and share it with those who will be submitting DRK-12 proposals next October.

Twenty-eight DRK-12 projects were featured in the 2021 STEM for All Video Showcase, including five whose videos were recognized (congratulations!). Details below.

Best,
The CADRE Team

Spotlight on DRK-12 CAREER Awardees

The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program offers NSF's most prestigious awards in support of early career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization.

Each year, NSF awards foundation-wide CAREER grants for activities that are helping early career faculty build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research.

In this Spotlight, learn about the DRK-12 work of emerging leaders who are developing innovative approaches for improving teaching and learning across STEM disciplines, including new project features from Christine Bae, Leslie Dietiker, and Frances Harper, and project updates from Meixia Ding, Gloriana Gonzalez, Charles Hohensee, Jessica Hunt, and Ryan “Seth” Jones.

If you are considering submitting a CAREER proposal (due July 26, 2021), these resources may be helpful:

2021 DRK-12 PI Meeting Updates

The event site was opened to attendees on May 25. All registrants should have received login information in an email from info@drk12pimeeting.org. Check your spam, clutter, and junk folders if you do not see this email in your inbox. To ensure that you receive future communications, add info@drk12pimeeting.org to your safe sender list (learn how).

As a reminder, the last day to register to attend the PI Meeting is tomorrow, May 28! Registration information was shared with PIs of active DRK-12 projects via email. If you are interested in attending, contact your PI for more info.

View the latest version of the agenda to see who is presenting and what topics will be discussed. Registrants can log in to the event site to add sessions to their personal agenda and receive session notifications. The meeting will kick off with NSF PO Office Hours and early career sessions next week, and posters will be available for viewing as they are uploaded.

Using Research.gov to Submit Proposals

Starting in 2021, the ITEST and DRK-12 programs now require the use of Research.gov or Grants.gov for the preparation and submission of proposals, rather than FastLane. On May 12, NSF led an informational webinar, demoing how to use Research.gov. View the webinar slides and chat takeaways.

DRK-12 at the STEM For All Video Showcase

We enjoyed learning about 28 DRK-12 projects' work at the 2021 STEM For All Video Showcase. If you were unable to participate, the videos are still available for viewing and discussion on the STEM for All Multiplex.

Five DRK-12 projects' videos were recognized:
Thank you for sharing your work!

tipsProject Tip: IRB Renewal

If you’re updating your IRB, include that information in your annual report. Send NSF the renewal letter. Even if there aren’t major changes, NSF likes to keep that up to date and in compliance with those requirements. And remember, if and when you’re granted a no-cost extension, your annual report (rather than your final report) becomes due. Annual reports are due prior to the end of the grant year, whereas final reports are due after the end of the grant year.
