Listening Session: Unpacking Aspiring STEM Education Grantees’ Experience

The Evidence Quality and Reach Hub (EQR) is offering a free virtual listening session to bring together peers in the STEM researcher community, particularly those from underrepresented groups and/or from minority serving institutions.

This listening session will focus on exploring the challenges faced by STEM researchers from underrepresented groups and/or from minority serving institutions when they apply for STEM education grants. As part of the experience, participants will share what approaches and resources help underrepresented aspiring grantees make their applications more competitive and learn from their peers about challenges and successes related to pursuing funding to advance STEM education research.

The listening session will be held on March 13 from 3:30-5:00pm EST.

Uncovering the Hidden Curriculum of DRK-12 Awards: Tips and Tools for Writing Successful NSF Grant Proposals

This NARST preconference workshop will comprise relevant information for writing and refining an NSF DRK-12 grant proposal. The participants will the chance to engage various resources and materials created by the leaders of CADRE (Community for the Advancement of Discovery Research in Education). These resources include but are not limited to how to craft a strong project narrative, identify a robust team, build community partners, and develop a worthwhile budget. Given the commitments expressed by NSF to diversify its portfolio, this workshop is geared towards early career scholars studying at or employed by historically underfunded institutions (i.e., MSIs, R2s, Teaching Institutions, Community Colleges). Early and mid-career scholars from underrepresented groups are also encouraged to participate.

CoP Meeting 1: How to Position Your Work for NSF DRK-12 Program STEM Education Research and Design Funding Opportunities

The Evidence Quality and Reach Hub (EQR), in partnership with Quality Education for Minorities (QEM) Network, is offering a free, four-part virtual community of practice to build aspiring DRK-12 grantees’, particularly those from minority serving institutions (MSI), knowledge of the components of the DRK12 solicitation and explore how to highlight personal and institutional assets in future proposal submissions.

This community of practice will provide aspiring grantees an opportunity to learn about the DRK-12 program and solicitation, interact with and learn from current and past NSF grantees from Minority Serving Institutions, identify personal, professional and institutional barriers to proposal submission, and explore how to use asset-based framing to highlight the strength and capacity of research teams and their institutions.

The community of practice will be held on March 19 and April 2 and 16, 2024 from 4-5:00pm EST, and April 30, 2024, from 4-5:30pm EST. To register for this community of practice, please complete an interest form by March 5: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6S757QM
