NSF Design and Discovery Forum: Climate Science, Children, and the Media

The National Science Foundation’s Directorate for Education and Human Resources (EHR) invites you to participate in a forum to stimulate a national conversation on the topic of climate science education for children ages 5-11. As scientists continue to study Earth’s changing climate and determine how society can both adapt to ongoing changes and mitigate future effects of climate change, there is a growing need to understand how to best communicate these concepts to young learners and inspire the next generation of scientists. This meeting will explore the potential for the media industry to collaborate with the scientific community to create content that is scientifically accurate and effectively engages children with climate science.

During this forum, panels of invited speakers and audience members will explore:

• What media producers need to know about communicating climate science and the impacts of climate change
• How to meaningfully engage historically underserved and underrepresented families in the creation of climate science-themed media
• Successful science-media collaborations

The event will encourage cross-sectoral conversation and result in the identification of specific opportunities for meaningful and effective collaboration.

The forum will be conducted virtually via Zoom. Pre-registration is required for this event.

EQR Hub and CADRE Information Session

The Evidence Quality and Reach Hub (EQR Hub) and CADRE hosted an introductory webinar to identify ways that we can help current and aspiring DRK-12 grantees build capacity in research methods, project management and implementation, topics and issues in teaching and learning research, knowledge translation, and principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.

The EQR Hub and CADRE will develop and implement events such as webinars for researchers in the community. 

AISL Equity Resource Center (AISL-ERC) Informational Webinar

The National Science Foundation seeks proposals to create an AISL Equity Resource Center (AISL-ERC) to advance equity within the informal STEM learning field through community building; supporting and extending infrastructures; technical assistance; and communications. (Program Solicitation nsf22556, Proposal Deadline May 10, 2022)
