Dr. Shefner received her B.S. in genetics and development from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and her M.S. and Ph.D. in immunology from Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
She has actively been involved in science education for many years. She has developed endorsement programs for teachers, has designed professional development to support research-based curricula, is a member of the planning committee for the Committee for Excellence in Teaching Undergraduate Science and Mathematics, as well as teaching and mentoring inservice teachers in area schools.
