Nancy R. Lawrence has a Ph.D. in Educational Foundations & Policy from University of Colorado, Boulder. Lawrence has written on diverse topics, including formative assessment, cultural literacy, gender politics, political activism, and workplace learning. Currently, Lawrence is directing an NSF-funded project that implements a proficiency-based assessment system in Algebra I and Geometry classes in suburban, rural, and urban classrooms. She is also the co-PI of a Gates-funded study looking at middle and high school teachers' use and uptake of formative assessment tools in math, language arts, social studies, and science.
