Greetings from CADRE

Dear DR K-12 Colleagues:

We are pleased to send you our fourth CADRE newsletter. Since the PI meeting in November, we have had a lot of activity, thanks to many of you who are participating in working groups and special interest groups. Through listservs and virtual conversations, many of you are following up on conversations from the November meeting, or initiating discussions based on new ideas and new challenges. The assessment workgroup will be convening two smaller groups, one looking at new psychometric measures for technology-based assessments, and another examining different aspects of formative assessment. The science curriculum special interest group will be meeting in DC this summer to explore options for both past and present NSF-supported curriculum as we enter the digital age. We are certain to have room for those of you who are not yet a part of these groups or others that CADRE has organized at the request of PI groups. See the Winter 2010 newsletter for information on how to join. If you want to suggest a new topical group, please let us know and we can help make it happen!

As an early alert, we want you to know that the 2010 PI meeting will be Dec. 1-3rd at the Capital Hilton in Washington D.C. In fact, next week a group of PI advisors will meet to provide advice and guidance about the upcoming meeting. Their recommendations, together with data from the meeting evaluations, will provide the core of the next meeting agenda. Advisors include Gary Benenson, Dan Chazan, Mary Hobbs, Andrew Izsak, Karen King, Cliff Konold, and Jan Mokros. If you have not been recruited as a "formal" advisor, we still welcome your ideas. Feel free to email me at

We also are now launching the CADRE website: As you know from your own project websites, it will only be as valuable as it is used! We have listened to PI suggestions about their main goal of learning more about their colleagues' projects, particularly those similar to their own. So, you will find "Project Smart Search," a database that will assist with match-making. To make it useful, please, at your earliest convenience, update the information on your project, as well as your profile.. Once you do this, we'll be anxious to learn your response to this new website feature.

We look forward to collaborating with you throughout the year.
