What are evidence standards for evaluating math and science programs? Join experts from the American Institutes for Research (AIR) for an engaging webinar about evidence standards. Presenters will discuss the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Tiers of Evidence and the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) evidence rating system and how these evidence standards relate to evaluating math and science programs. The presenters will discuss how participants can use these resources to strengthen their existing and proposed study designs. This webinar is designed to be interactive and there will be time for audience participation and questions.

Who should attend?

  • Past DRK-12 grantees, including PIs and project staff
  • Current DRK-12 grantees, including PIs and project staff
  • Aspiring DRK-12 grantees
  • Anyone interested in understanding more about evidence standards for evaluating math and science programs

Presenters:

  • Lyzz Davis, Senior Researcher at American Institutes for Research
Dr. Davis’ expertise includes college access and readiness, experimental and quasi-experimental design, and quantitative statistical methodology. Recent roles include directing a project that evaluated the impact of a schoolwide college-access program in Minnesota and leading a study that examined access to dual credit programs and their associated early college success outcomes in Minnesota. Dr. Davis is a certified What Works Clearinghouse reviewer for group design standards. Dr. Davis serves on AIR’s WWC Statistics, Website and Training (SWAT) team. Dr. Davis also frequently trains educators on the ESSA Tiers of Evidence.
  • Joe Taylor, Principal Researcher at American Institutes for Research
Dr. Taylor is faculty at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and Principal Researcher at AIR. He is an experienced WWC reviewer and has been principal investigator of several large-scale NSF- and IES-funded impact studies. Dr. Taylor serves on AIR’s WWC SWAT team.

Objectives: Following participation, audience members will:

  • Understand the purpose of ESSA Tiers of Evidence and WWC ratings system
  • Recognize ESSA's four levels of evidence and qualifying research designs
  • Recognize WWC evidence rating system and qualifying designs
  • Become aware of the alignment between ESSA tiers of evidence and WWC ratings
  • Know how to apply ESSA Tiers of Evidence and WWC standards to their own research designs
